In honor of our country’s independence, many cookouts will take place tomorrow.  I’ll be firing up the grill and making my favorite sides to celebrate the good ol’ red, white & blue.  But since this is FITNESS, fashion & frank talk, we must keep nutrition in mind…as hard as that might be tomorrow.  So, before you set your menu, here are some good choices:

1.  94%-96% lean burger patties: 4 oz = 140 calories, 4.5 g fat (instead of 80-20% beef: 4oz = 290 calories, 22 g fat)

Or, opt for a turkey or veggie burger!

2.  Turkey dog: 2 oz = 45 calories, 5 g fat (instead of a beef hot dog: 2 oz = 180 calories, 17 g fat)

3. Pretzels: 1 oz = 110 calories, 2 g fat (instead of potato chips: 1 oz = 150 calories, 10 g fat)

Or, opt for a huge side of veggies with a TBSP of dip!

4. Baked Beans (hold the bacon & butter!): 1/2 cup = 100 calories, 1 g fat (instead of your Uncle’s buttered down beans, LOL, or potato salad: 1/2 cup = 179+ calories, 11 g fat)

Also, before heading to that cookout, make sure to get a good workout in! It will help you make better choices when you get around that yummy food!
